Basic Recorder Lessons: Omnibus Edition ASIN:0825615313 Our Price: $21.95
Customer's Rating: 4 Summary: Wonderful book for adult players and teachers Comments: I am about to start teaching adult recorder classes and have looked through many instructions books. This is the best that I have found so far for the adult student. Actually, this omnibus edition is a compilation of the three books in the series (for C instruments), along with supplementary tunes--so it is especially useful for a teacher. (At least 2 levels of the student books can be purchased individually for less of an initial cost.)Features that I especially appreciate are: --the larger than typical music which makes for very easy reading (along with very clear and attractive layout) --the duets for student and teacher at the beginning which allow the students to start right off making real music --the very well-thought-out pedagogy that would be more attractive to adults than are many others --the wide variety and high quality of the pieces selected. I recommend this book highly and am only disappointed that there does not seem to be an equivalent book for the F instruments.

Customer's Rating: 4 Summary: A must-have for players of baroque wind instruments Comments: This compact volume (73 pp) gives a wonderful introduction to the practice of playing the baroque flute, recorder or oboe. Although coments on fingerings may not apply to instruments produced today, all remarks on tounging and ornamentaion are very valuable. It is a easily accesible authentic document from the beginning of the 18th century.

The Cambridge Companion to the Recorder ASIN:0521358167 Our Price: $22.00
Customer's Rating: 4 Summary: Bravo, almost Comments: Any recorder player will enjoy and learn from this book. I have been playing the alto recorder for a year now. This book taught me a great deal about the instrument. What's even better, the book carefully introduces the repertory and where to find and read about it.I am delighted to learn that I will never run out of material to play. The book is written with care, verve, and love. However, the reader is assumed to have considerable knowledge, to know without explanation, for instance, the implications of wide windways and bores, and narrow windways (p178). The history of the 20th century recorder revival, of great interest to contemporary enthusiasts, is brushed off twice, as "described and discussed in several publications." Fine, then why not this one? This should have been dealt with more carefully. The illustrations are very poorly reproduced. I am still suffering from eyestrain from trying to find the recorder in Plate 27. Overall, though, this is a book any recorder player will want.

The Recorder From Zero, Vol. 2 ASIN:0915888033 Our Price: $23.95
Customer's Rating: 5 Summary: Just as good as Vol 1. Comments: I have both books - my daughter is the student. The wealth of excellent exercises and non-boring duet material made volume 2 a no-brainer for us. As as said in my volume 1 review: these are the best method books I own.

Teach Yourself Recorder ASIN:0825618401 Our Price: $19.95
Customer's Rating: 4 Summary: If You Want To Learn the Recorder Comments: I have the Book/CD/Video set and it's been a great help to learn the soprano recorder. The book assumes a soprano (C key) recorder is being used but someone with a tenor recorder could use this book since the fingering should be the same (both are C key instruments). I only wish an Alto recorder version of this book were available. The tunes are traditionals and easy and fun to play. One short duet is provided. Before each set of songs a new note is introduced along with a diagram of the recorder and which holes to cover. A master finger diagram chart is provided at back. I'm almost at the end and soon will use what I've learned to play Mel Bay's Recorder Book of Medieval and Renaissance Music (ISBN: 0871666731) - which I bought here.

Playing Recorder Sonatas: Technique and Interpretation ASIN:0198790015 Our Price: $29.95
Customer's Rating: 4 Summary: Enthousiasm and knowledge Comments: In this book one recognises the enthousiasm of an experienced teacher and recorderlover. With a profound knowledge of the instrument and its repertoire Rowland-Jones shows us what is possible with a recorder as an expressive instrument. His comments about tongueing are a little bit mysterious and at odds with what other experts (for example Walter van Hauwe) have written about the subject. Otherwise a fantastic book, which should be read by every serious recorderplayer, amateur and professional.

A Rollick of Recorders or Other Instruments: Thirteen Popular Colonial Tunes Set for Trio ASIN:0879350296 Our Price: $4.95
Customer's Rating: 5 Summary: Rollicking fun for musicians Comments: This book of trios contains fun and beautiful music - something any number of instruments can use in performance. The selections made by Watson are excellent, and they can be played by any intermediate student, on through to professionals. Rhythms are basic, and most dynamic and musical interpretation will need to be added by performers, as there is little editing, but I personally like that aspect. The songs speak for themselves too, with much inherent phrasing. The melodies of the faster pieces are bright and jaunty, and the slower movements have some lyrical and dolce moments.
