Arban's Complete Conservatory Method for Trumpet (Cornet or Eb Alto, Bb Tenor, Baritone, Euphoniumand Bb Bass in Treble Clef) ASIN:0825803853 Our Price: $27.95
Customer's Rating: 3 Summary: This is one of the classics of brass teaching methods. Comments: Jean Baptiste Arban was one of the first virtuosi of the cornet, and Arban's trumpet method is known by virtually every trumpet/cornet player (and most brass players) on the planet. This book should be in every trumpet player's library. The sections for novices have been surpassed by other teaching methods, but this book can be used by trumpeters at all levels on a daily basis. The introduction is periodically updated by significant trumpet players of the day, whose comments are of historic interest, if not always offering sound technical advise. Supplemented by the trumpet/cornet books of Herbert L. Clarke (another giant in the world of brass players), you may never need to buy another set of practice books!

A Physical Approach to Playing the Trumpet ASIN:0966884701 Our Price: $16.95
Customer's Rating: 5 Summary: A great book for the complete beginner! Comments: As an adult (late 30s) I have only been learning the trumpet a month, and I found this book to be a huge help. Easy to read, helpful information and clear diagrams enabled me to get a better sense of what I am trying to achieve; and although the book itself states that it is designed for intermediate to advanced players, I would recommend it to the the complete novice too.Although not a cheap book for readers down under (give the exchange rate and postage etc) it is definitely well worth the money, and a great reference book to be pick up again and again.

Play Trumpet Today! - Level 1 ASIN:0634033301 Our Price: $14.95
Customer's Rating: 5 Summary: The CD makes the book Comments: I was skeptical of this book at first. It seemed too simple. But after trying it with some of my trumpet students, I've changed my mind. Students (and I) really like the enclosed CD accompaniment. It's what makes the book, in my opinion. It's more fun to play (as opposed to practice) the songs with the CD. This method works.

The Art of Jazz Trumpet ASIN:0962846767 Our Price: $17.47
Customer's Rating: 5 Summary: Worthy Investment, Interesting Trip Comments: Fellow Travelers -I have found John McNeil's "The Art of Jazz Trumpet" to be truly helpful and inspiring. The exercises presented are tough, though-provoking, and very cleverly focused on amplifying skills that appear - to me at least - to be genuinely useful in a jazz setting. Personally, I see the value of this book less in the applicability of specific lines ("licks") to tunes, and more in improving the improviser's ability to present his/her own ideas with more propulsive articulation, fluidity, and melodic confidence. There is, of course, a significant (in terms of wood shed frustration) cost factor here - but most players, I suspect, will feel that the improvements are deep and fast enough to fall well within our pain and patience thresholds. Thanks John for a terrific contribution to the field, and for my (small but enjoyable) personal mini-breakthrough - it has been a long time, and I'm really enjoying the experience. Bravo.
